Independence Day- The most important day for any country to celebrate the true spirit of patriotism and dedication towards his or her nation. It would not be wrong to say that whenever 14th August (Jashn-e-Azadi) day comes, it reloads all the efforts and sacrifices of our ancestors. Thanks to them that we are standing in a bountiful land where we can eat, breathe, walk, speak and live freely; I repeat FREELY!
We have always talked about the bad aspects of our country; aspects like it has been recognized as a terrorist nation, is involved in massive corruption, is an under-developed nation or has a label of s 3rd world country. But no one ever talks about the geniuses it has created, the one who lightened up the name of PAKISTAN not only nationally but also on the international levels.
Let’s enlist a few of them. So, only a 17 years old chap was recognized as a scientist from our beloved country; he is Muhammad Shaheeer Niazi who has done research on electric honeycomb that was recently published in “ROYAL SOCIETY OPEN SCIENCE” journal. Surprisingly, Isaac Newton was also 17 when his first paper was published and Shaheer was 16 when he officially received the acceptance letter for his work.
During the days of the novel coronavirus pandemic, scientists at NUST successfully established the testing kits that can detect the COVID virus, with the collaboration of other foreign universities. These testing kits cost only one-fourth of the current price of the actual kits that are being used to detect the Corona Virus world wide.
These brilliant minds and many more are the gems of this country. We must not forget that there are many others who are under-rated who should be promoted by us so that they can be recognized at the international level. It’s so much easier now as we have the power of social media in this digitized world. It is fair to say that Pakistan is far behind in business, finance, technology, sports, electronics, etc. But we are struggling for it. Pakistan has many flaws as a developing nation but which country doesn’t have it? Whenever it’s about to prove someone wrong or defame them we enthusiastically post or troll them on social media but when it is time to appreciate even the little success of our country neither our media nor we ourselves appreciate and highlight it. We celebrate all our national days very energetically by lighting candles, decorating buildings & monuments and raised flags on top of our houses and buildings, etc. After the day of celebration, we for sure do find these celebration props, small flags and badges down in our feet; surely it is an ignorant act and we should give it a thought about it. As media has a very glorious impact on our mindsets, why doesn’t it create programs regarding this message on our national day!? why don’t the big brands broadcast it as a public service message? why don’t our celebrities talk about it? Don’t you think it should be done as well?
Pakistan is our land; the land that taught us how to live independently, whose valleys have a glimpse of heaven, whose mountains give the desire to climb, whose lakes have fresh sweet water, whose Youth has a reflection of Quaid’s spirit and whose poets have expressions like Iqbal. So let’s thank the country on this independence day; let’s love it and let’s fix it together. Let's enjoy the freedom & celebrate the relentless efforts of our people!
